Time Now For Senior Travel
June 1, 2008 – 3:10 amSenior Travel Experience
Whether or not you are a seasoned traveler, or whether you have always dreamed of travel or only recently considered it, retirement years are a perfect time of your life to experience the greater world. Explore your state, country, or the planet, by car, train, or plane, a big beautiful world is there for the visiting. The variety is endless, and the choices yours as to how exciting, entertaining, educational or peaceful and relaxing you want it to be.
A large benefit of senior travel, is the freedom to travel to a warm place if you don’t like your cold winter, or vice versa. Perhaps you would prefer to be in a cooler place than your own hot summer.
Traveling should be right up there in your list of ‘to dos,’ and being worried about possible problems that may arise, will only stop you from having fun and enjoying new experiences and seeing new places. There are so many possibilities with senior travel, if you pay attention to a few basic details.
Of course some things taken for granted in your younger years, need to be considered in your senior years. This is also true of traveling, and that said travel can be an enriching way to spend your senior years.
Anticipating Problems Of Senior Travel
If you anticipate the problems of senior travel, then there should be no problems, is that true? You might need to stand in queue for a long time for different reasons, such as buying tickets, checking in or out your luggage, or whatever reason. Ensure that you carry a sturdy walking stick with you, if you find standing for periods of time upset you. This would help ease the pain off your feet if you have to stand for a long time.
Should standing in line become an unfortunate reality, you might inform both the people who are in front and after you about your place in the queue, and ask them if they mind you sitting somewhere close until your turn comes. You might be pleasantly surprised to find that most people would be happy to oblige.
Whenever you have to travel, whether you need to walk or not, ensure that you are wearing extremely comfortable shoes. Never go out with new shoes as these could create some horrific blisters even with normal walking, and could spoil the next few days for you. Definitely not what you would want on a holiday.
The airport confusion can often be solved for senior travel by calling ahead and requesting assistance. In most cases this could be a bonus to you as it would eliminate the problem of searching for the right gate, and also the problem of having to stand through a possible queue. If necessary, you could even request an employee of the airport be present with a wheel chair, and they could take you through the right corridors to your airport gate lounge.
If you are one of the many who need to frequent the toilet, organize that you have an aisle seat. This will make it easier for you and the other passengers, as you will cause little or no disturbance.
Finally and very importantly with senior travel, permit yourself enough time to rest. Traveling can be very tiring and this statement stands true for all those who travel, regardless of age. You would need to be realistic about the demand you place on your body during your travels. We have all heard of or experienced ‘Jet Lag’, a very real phenomenon.
Take the time to prepare fully and carefully, and prepare for your own specific set of requirements, and you will find senior travel everything it is claimed to be. Almost all who partake of the adventures presented find it extremely rewarding. As years pass, any regrets will only be for opportunities not taken!
This is truly an excellent way to enjoy the latter years of your life. Many people look forward to their retiring years as it is often considered the time when they will travel. Live your dreams.
